Keine Angst, soweit ist es noch nicht, aber die Überschrift hat mir so gefallen, und sie ist ja irgendwie auch passend. Ruhig ist es in letzter Zeit in meinem Blog geworden. Dafür haben wir andernorts wie die Wilden gearbeitet, und nach fast drei Jahren können wir endlich sagen, dass sich die Arbeiten am Haus dem Ende zuneigen. Das tut unendlich gut!!! Dann ist da noch dieses Buch, an dem ich arbeite…und zwischendurch gehen meine Batterien in den roten Bereich, deshalb verordne ich mir ab und zu Seelenbaumelei, schwimme im Fluss, wandere oder reite durch die Wälder oder lese in Pompeji. A propos Pompeji – auch hier hat sich was getan, ich zeig’s euch gleich. Heute gibt’s nicht viele Worte, sondern nur einen sommerlichen Gartenrundgang! Geniesst ihn 🙂
Fear not, it’s not that bad but I do like the heading and it also fits the occasion. It has gone quiet in my blog these days but we have been working like lunatics, and after almost three years work on the house is coming to an end. This is such a good feeling!!! Then there’s this book I’m working on…and in between my batteries are so low that I prescribe myself some time to relax, swim in the river, hike or ride through the woods or simply read a book in Pompeii. A propos Pompeii – a lot has happened, I’ll show you in a moment. Today I’ll just take you for a summer ramble through my garden! Enjoy 🙂
Voilà Pompeji!
Ich habe beschlossen, dass Pompeji ein überwiegend grünes Gartenzimmer wird. Es ist ein ruhiger, meditativer Ort, an dem Texturen, Strukturen dominieren sollen.
I have decided that Pompeii will be a mainly green garden room. It’s a meditative and peaceful place where foliage textures and structures will dominate.

Im Obstgarten herrscht Krieg…ziemlich undankbar von den Vögeln, uns alles wegzufressen, wo wir sie so treu durch den Winter bringen. 😉
War is raging in the orchard…come to think of it, birds are pretty ungrateful creatures, wanting it all for themselves after we fed them so faithfully all winter. 😉
Zum Glück sind die Quitten (für sie) ungeniessbar! Thankfully they won’t touch the quince tree!
Im Senkgarten steht die nächste Rosenblüte an. Die Cerinthe hat sich grosszügig versamt und wird einen netten Hintergrund für die Cosmos abgeben, die im Spätsommer blühen.
The roses are about to flower again in the sunken garden. Cerinthe has seeded itself about and its foliage will be nice with the Cosmos flowering in late summer.
Die Sitooterie ist fertig! Wir sind sehr froh, wie sie sich einfügt. Ich danke Cathy für das Wort – habe es bei ihr gestohlen und empfehle euch einen Besuch bei ihr, wenn ihr eine äusserst stilvolle Sitooterie sehen möchtet. 🙂

Everything in your garden is looking really good; you’ve obviously had a lot of rain too. Annette, I just love your conservatory, the modern with the old, works so well, I manage this quite well inside our house but have more problems making it work outside.
Yes, we had and still have, so everything nice and green. I think the timber really made the difference with the conservatory, we’re so happy with it.
Eure Insel in den Bergen darf man wohl als Gesamtkunstwerk bezeichnen. Es ist alles so stimmig, rund und es fühlt sich nicht so an, als würde daran ERST seit 3 Jahren gearbeitet sondern vielmehr so, als würdet ihr dort schon immer gelebt haben. Und als hätte alles Zeit gehabt, sich entwickeln zu dürfen. Darin liegt dann wohl eine besondere Kunst.
Ich hab schon Grundstücke gesehen, die mit viel Geld und gärtnerischem Personal binnen kurzer Zeit geplant und umgesetzt wurden und denen man auch genau das angesehen hat.
Wunderbare, liebe Annette, ist es bei euch geworden. Was mir auch so gut gefällt: Wie Schatten und Licht genutzt werden. Das wunderschöne Plätzchen unter der Weide, und all die anderen Orte, an denen du jeweils eine wechselnde Perspektive auf dein Leben einnehmen kannst. ❤ Ha des isch oifach ein Draum, wie der Schwabe sagt 😀

Ach Annette, ich habe nur so vor mich hingestöhnt, als ich die Bilder gesehen habe, soooh schön!!! und so einen Platz wie Pompeji plane ich auch immer schon, aber allein bin ich damit etwas überfordert. Ipomea wollte bei mir partout nicht, ich denke nächstes Jahr mache ich noch einen Versuch und gestern habe ich meine erste Artischocke gegessen, Du lässt sie lieber blühen? Den Ausdruck „Sitooerie“ höre ich zum ersten Mal,gleich notiert. Genieße deinen Garten mit allem drum herum , es ist fantastisch, lg Marlies
Liebe Marlies, ich habe da ein Riesenglück, weil mein Mann einfach alles kann. Das Beste an Pompeji ist, dass es aus lauter alten Materialien entstanden ist (ausser das Dach). Ich habe grosse Freude daran, die Insekten an den Artischocken zu beobachten, und zu kaufen gibt es sie an jeder Ecke. Ipomoea ist mir erst hier im Süden gelungen, da sie es wirklich sehr warm braucht. Schönes Wochenende 🙂

Wenn ich deine Gartenbilder sehe gerate ich immer ins Schwärmen. So ein Garten wäre auch mein Traum. So liebevoll ist alles gestaltet und so schöne Ecken zum Träumen! Und was da alles blüht! Sicherlich kannst du dort zwischen deinem Stress immer mal die Seele baumeln lassen. Euer Garten ist wirklich eine kleine Insel.

Oh Annette – you and Himself have been SO busy, and with such a great result. In particular I guess Pompeii is likely to become a very special place for you – it is looking lovely already. And you have finshed your sitooterie (a cut above the usual conservatory or summerhouse, of course) – do take time to sit oot in it, not that I am qualified to say that of course 😉 And thanks for the mention – I am glad the name appealed to you in the way that it did.
Hi Cathy, the best thing about Pompeii is the fact that we used almost exclusively reclaimed materials and it’s such fun to give to new life to old stuff as you know. It has turned out beautifully and we’ll make sure we’ll enjoy it 🙂

Looks great Annette! I really love Pompeii – it looks so peaceful and relaxing, with just simple planting. The white Hydrangea is especially lovely.
It is a bit away from the house and there’s something very quiet about it, so I think the green planting will suit it well.
Your gardens, conservatory, and Pompeii are all looking so beautiful, peaceful and a place or relaxation. I hope you get the time to enjoy after all the hard work you have been putting into the design and construction. Oh, I wish I could visit!

Hi Annette. I just dropped back in to your site to answer your question you left on my blog. The people I have met living in those houses are more friendly and very fun loving. I think they are happier too. Color is not mandatory, it just spreads. Kinda like the happiness that becomes infectuous. This morning, more of those house go up on GWGT and some are even more colorful in their gardens too. Wait until I post the containers. These folks go all out in their designs.

Your photgraphs are always good but these made me yearn for a garden to walk amongst and photograph.Your seating area is very inviting and notwitstanding your so called poor soil, the Hydrangea look quite splendid. Lucky you, be sure to make sure the living is easy often enough to sit and enjoy. D

As another Scot, I love seeing these sitooteries. It takes me back to my childhood! How you manage to have such a beautiful garden, while undertaking major building work and d.i.y. Is incredible! Pompeii (I assume that’s your summerhouse?) looks like a wonderfully restful and secluded spot in your garden. I can imagine many quiet and contemplative times spent there. And love the planting there, too! Can I ask you? Your artichokes look incredible – do you grow them to eat or purely for decorative purposes? If you eat them, when is best to cut them – yours are all flowering!
It’s takes quite a lot of energy and passion to live your dream but it’s worth it, Ali. We call the summerhouse Pompeii because it was virtually a grown over ruin which my husband is rebuilding (still lots to do). I let the artichokes flower as bees and butterflies love them so much. You should harvest them as long as they’re still closed. Do you grow any?
Yes, we have three plants in the potager. They are close to, but haven’t flowered yet. I’m panicking in case it’s too late if they do flower! I did think that was the case. Pizza on the menu this weekend then! 🙂
