It’s freezing out there, my friends, so these days the head gardener and myself are huddling up against the fire and dream of spring! When people go for lunch in France they say „on casse la croûte“ or „à la soupe“…at least they used to in the old days when we still had restaurants and were allowed to go out. So I thought what better way than to plant up a tureen with Muscari as a gentle reminder of better times. It’s not really a vase but as long as there are flowers in it, I’m sure our charming host Cathy won’t mind! Please check out the other vases on her lovely blog. Es ist bitterkalt, liebe Freunde, und die Obergärtnerin und ich kauern am Feuer und träumen vom Frühling! Wenn Leute in Frankreich zum Lunch gehen, sagen sie „on casse la croûte“ oder „à la soupe“…früher, als es noch Restaurants gab und man ausgehen durfte. Was liegt daher näher, als eine Suppenterrine mit Traubenhyazinthen zu bepflanzen. Eine kleine Erinnerung an bessere Zeiten. Ok, es ist keine Vase, aber ich glaube, der lieben Cathy ist es egal, solange Blumen drin sind! Vergesst nicht, ihren schönen Blog zu besuchen, um die anderen Vasen zu sehen. I’ve been taking pictures of ‚the flower ice‘ on the top of our conservatory too. I think it requires specific temperature and wind conditions, as we have them some days and others no patterns. The muscari look quite dramatic with that lighting, and beautifully photographed too. I shall try and drop in your two idioms during my French chatter morning via zoom on Wednesday. Keep warm and keep safe.

My first thought upon seeing your ice flowers was that they’d make lovely wallpaper! Living in a climate without snow or even freezes, ice flowers are something I’ve never seen before. They’re incredibly beautiful, as is your tureen of Muscari. Best wishes and give the head gardener a pat of the head from me, Annette.

So very pretty and hopeful of spring. I may have to make a visit soon to the grocery store to get some spring flowers. But I’m trying not to think too much about spring, since it is yet so far away. I thought you were living someplace relatively warm right now.
yes, it’s lovely to have spring flowers in the house in winter 🙂 we’re having a very cold spell in Europe right now. -35°C in Spain! Spring may still be a bit away but snowdrops and daffodils are already pushing out 🙏

Hang on Annette. It seems so dark right now in our countries. Hang on to the light and what is right. Some difficult days lay ahead, but the darkness cannot prevail.
