Oops, who’s that? I’ve been meaning to tell you for a while that we’ve employed a new gardener…she’s still a bit young but very passionate 😉

Ups, wer ist das denn? Tja, ich wollte euch schon eine Weile berichten, dass wir eine neue Gärtnerin angestellt haben…sie ist noch jung, aber äusserst passioniert 😉

Our old gardener was getting a bit fed up doing all the work on her own, so now they work in a team if they don’t snooze in the sun that is… 😀

Unsere alte Gärtnerin hatte es satt, die ganze Arbeit allein zu machen. Nun arbeiten sie im Team, d.h. wenn sie nicht gerade in der Sonne dösen… 😀

Nahia has also helped me to do today’s vase…two vases actually…and because it’s high summer, we felt the ideal place for them would be by the pool!

Nahia hat mir auch geholfen, die Vase für heute zu gestalten…zwei Vasen übrigens, und weil es Hochsommer ist, fanden wir, sie müssen einfach am Pool stehen!

Here’s no. 1 – Rudbeckia triloba, Pennisetum alopecuroides ‚Moudry‘ and Miscanthus sinensis ‚Blütenwunder‘

I’m very pleased with the way the planting in the pool garden has turned out by the way: Trachycarpus, Phlomis and Panicum looking fab.

Ich bin übrigens sehr zufrieden mit der Bepflanzung im Pool-Garten: Trachycarpus, Phlomis und Panicum sehen wunderbar aus.

    1. Thanks, Kate, I can’t get over the speed at which things have been growing here as we’ve only planted this area 2 years ago. The persicaria is actually a bit scary ;). Yes, our new family member is probably a bit TOO cute, she keeps us on our toes!

    von Jörg habe ich schon gehört, dass ihr ein neues „Kind“ habt. Das ist ja eine wirklich Hübsche. Auch deine Pool- und Blumenbilder sind wie immer super! Aber da brauche ich schon gar nichts mehr dazu sagen – du bist einfach eine Garten- und Fotografierkünstlerin!!

  4. Your vase makes me thnk of rustic meadow on a hot and sunny day in August, Annette 😉 And I DO like Jowey Mirella… So Intersting to see your pollside a few years on as It has certainly changed since the early days. You will have used it a lot this summer, I am sure! Have a good week

    1. Hi Cathy, that’s a lovely image, rustic meadow on a hot day. Actually can’t get over how quickly things have grown around the pool as we’ve only planted this area 2 years ago. We do use the pool a lot so all the hard work was worthwile. Have a good week too x

Hach … ich bin ja von Natur aus kein „neidiger“ Mensch (hoffe ich doch), aber die Bilder, der Pool und vor allem der Pool … lösen eben ein leichtes „Zucken“ aus 🙃 DAAAA wär ich jetzt auch arg gern. Und meine Madame könnte mit den beiden Damen von dir bestimmt auch ein Arrangement zum gemeinsamen dösen finden … schön ist es bei euch

  7. Beautiful! The dahlia is a lovely colour, but the big vase full of airy summer meadow flowers is definitely my taste and I can just imagine how your new companion helped pick them! 😉 I like the planting around the pool. Your Miscanthus is flowering already!

    1. I really think Rudbeckia triloba is one of the finest and it seeds about reliably – do you grow it too? Miscanthus ‚Blütenwunder‘ is truly living up to its name, Cathy, and is the first to flower, the others don’t even show flower spikes yet.

      1. I think I must have tried to grow Rudbeckia before, but it was probably eaten by the snails. I will give it another go though, as I saw a beautiful one on Frank’s blog last week (Sorta Like Suburbia).

  13. Was für hübsche Gärtnerinnen Du hast (und was für einen coolen Pool!)! Meine Rudbeckia ist bei mir wieder im Beet aufgetaucht, nachdem ich sie schon verloren wähnte. Genauer gesagt, ich wusste nicht mehr, wo ich sie hinverpflanzt hatte. Der neue Standort ist definitiv besser, denn mein vierbeiniger Hilfsgärtner ist nicht so zartfühlend wie Deine beiden, glaube ich. Der überrennt das geliebte Grün schon mal, wenn er es sehr eilig hat. 😉

    1. Liebe Doris, Rudbeckia triloba sucht sich meist selbst den Ort, an dem sie sich wohlfühlt und wandert gern. Die gärtnerischen Qualitäten der Ridgebacks sind mit ein Grund, warum ich sie so schätze. Sie rennen nicht durchs Beet, sondern hechten galant drüber und graben tun sie auch nicht. 😉 Liebe Grüsse

      1. Ich habe die beiden gar nicht als Ridgedbacks erkannt. Sie sehen so schlank und elegant aus, kenne ich gar nicht so. 😉

      2. Es gibt (fast) nichts Schlimmeres als fette Ridgebacks, leider sieht man das nur zu oft. Tut weh, denn sie sind so muskulös und elegant wie Panther. Wahre Schönheiten…naja, ich liebe sie eben 😉

      3. Die beiden, die ich kenne, sind beileibe nicht fett, aber einfach irgendwie kräftiger gebaut. Scheint mir jedenfalls so. Deine beiden sehen sehr grazil aus. Ich kannte Ridgebacks vorher gar nicht so, aber inzwischen gefallen sie mir gut!

  17. Your pool, and the planting look very tempting! Here it has been too hot to even go out into the garden! But it is beginning to cool slightly. My M.’Morning Light‘ is brown and crisp on top but there is green so I hope it might flower when it rains.

    1. Hi Christina, the pool is one of the best things we’ve ever done and we use it a lot (from March-Nov.). This summer is less stressful as the last one during which even I was forced to stay in the house during the day at times. Can I ask your advice concerning the greenhouse – we have to put up a new one and I’m not sure which one to go for and if glass is such a good idea. I’ve been struggling to grow anything in it during the summer as it gets so hot. How do you do it? Do you use yours at all in summer? Have a nice Sunday x

      1. The summer has been impossible here, I’ve been inside the house more than in winter. Regarding the greenhouse; mine has glass sides and a polycarbonate roof. Light levels aren’t a problem here so even all polycarbonate would problem. Last year we bought proper shade netting for the outside and I actually left it up all winter! In summer though it is still much too hot for most things to grow. It’s been more than 50 degrees C several times and in the forties for weeks. Mine is useful from September to May. What I really need for summer is a shade house or tunnel. I’ve been saying it for a couple of years and I intend doing it for next summer. If you want to chat about it we could skype or WhatsApp if you like.

      2. I’m so sorry to hear that, Christina, it’s not good if summer turns into something one is fearing instead of looking forward to it. We’re going into a very hot phase right now and things start to look parched. I’ve the same temperatures in my greenhouse and along with it whitefly & co. I think I have to consider shade netting as well but it’d need to look good as well. I f you don’t mind I contact you nearer to the time when I’ve had the time to look at greenhouses. Don’t think that light levels are an issue here. Keep up your chin! PS: Think I’ve told you about the book An English garden in Provence by Natasha Spender, haven’t I? If not, I think you’d like it.   19. What a beautiful new helper. I expect she is very good at digging. I love your poolside planting. And your rudbeckia vase is so pretty. I love red dahlias and this one is new to me.

    1. One of the many reasons why we love Ridgebacks is the fact that they’re perfect garden dogs: no digging, no running through borders…it seems almost as if they’d appreciate the beauty of gardens 🙂
