In a Vase on a Monday: Wind in the willow

Es ist eine Weile her seit meinem letzten Beitrag, aber wie jedes Jahr überrennt mich der Frühling…und ja, ich habe einfach sooooo viel zu tun! Nichtsdestotrotz ist heute eine Vase angesagt, hurra Frühling! Was ich so getrieben habe in der letzten Zeit? Einmal war ich mit meiner neuen Website beschäftigt. Habe sie ganz allein gemacht und bin mächtig stolz 🙂 . Ich würde mich sehr über euer Feedback freuen, schaut doch mal vorbei: www.personal-eden.com  Zudem arbeite ich an einem neuen Projekt, denn ich möchte künftig Foto-Workshops für Garten- und Naturliebhaber anbieten. Sobald das Programm steht, lasse ich es euch wissen. Ich verrate nur so viel: Es gibt tolle Gärten und Landschaften –abseits von ausgetretenen Pfaden– zu entdecken. Ihr dürft gespannt sein 🙂 Des weiteren hat Monsieur ein „château des chouettes“ (Eulenschloss) gebaut. Die Anleitung gab’s in der Jan./Feb. Ausgabe von Landscape. Vor allem die Installation desselben in einer alten Eiche war sehr abenteuerlich, aber zum Glück ging alles gut, und Monsieur kam heil wieder herunter. Naja, ehrlich gesagt, gefiel es ihm dort oben so gut, dass er bleiben wollte, aber ich rief ihm den Sinn der Übung in Erinnerung, und er sah es dann ein. 😉 Bislang ist keine Eule eingezogen, aber es ist so hübsch geworden, dass sicher keine widerstehen kann.

It’s been a while since my last post but as usual spring has overwhelmed me…and yes, I’m just sooo terribly busy! Nevertheless I’ve prepared a vase for today, horray spring! What I’ve been up to this past while? Well, one of the things I’ve been working on is my new website. I’ve done it all myself and I’m pretty proud 🙂 . I look forward to your feedback, so pop over if you get the chance and let me know what you think: www.personal-eden.com  I’m presently working on a new project and will be doing photography workshops for garden and nature lovers. As soon as the programme is ready I shall let you know. I can only say that we’ll be exploring beautiful gardens and landscapes off the beaten track. Then Monsieur built an owl castle (château des chouettes). The how-to guide was in the Jan./Feb. issue of Landscape by the way. Fixing the nestbox in the old oak was quite an adventure but I’m happy to say all went well and Monsieur came down unharmed. To be honest, he liked it so much up there, it took some convincing to make him come down again 😉 No owl yet but we’re full of hope. It’s so pretty how could any owl refuse to live there?!

A propos Frühlingsgefühle: Unser Wald ist voller Vogelgezwitscher, Froschgelächter (im Moment ist Ruhe, sie erholen sich von der Nacht!) und Eulengesang. Der Garten ist heuer besonders schön. Leider kann ich die Zwiebelblumen-Arrangements nicht mit euch teilen, da ich von einem tollen Gartenmagazin den Auftrag bekam, ein Feature über Zwiebelblumen im Topf vorzuproduzieren. Nun zur Montagsvase: Flieder und Apfelblüten. Ist das nicht romantisch? Sie ist eine Hommage an einen meiner Lieblingsbäume: die Trauerweide. Sie treibt als Erste aus und lässt im Herbst sehr spät die Hüllen fallen. Die Kätzchen sind allerliebst, die Rinde attraktiv und sitzt man auf der Bank darunter, ist es, als tauche man in eine mysteriöse Welt. Die filigranen Zweige bewegen sich in der leichtesten Brise und verursachen ein köstliches Lichtspiel, dem man stundenlang zusehen könnte. Sie ist bei vielen Vögeln beliebt, aber vor allem beim Fitis, der im Englischen so treffend ‚willow warbler‘ genannt wird. Auf dem letzten Bild habe ich eine ganze Minute belichtet, um die Bewegung einzufangen. Zum Glück schlief mein Model! Vielen Dank an Cathy, die die Montagsvase erfunden hat. Vergesst nicht, bei ihr vorbeizuschauen, denn nicht nur ihre eigenen Vasen sind äusserst originell. Ich wünsche euch eine sonnige Frühlingswoche 🙂

A propos spring fever: Our wood is filled with birdsong, the raucous laughter of the frogs (right now they’re quiet, recovering from the night!) and the hooting of the owls. The garden is very beautiful this year. Sadly I cannot share the bulb plantings with you as I’ve been commissioned by a very glossy, beautiful magazine to do a feature on bulb plantings for containers. Alas, the vase: Lilac and apple blossom. How romantic is that?! It’s a homage to one of my favourite trees: the weeping willow. It’s the first to turn green in spring and almost the last to shed its leaves. The catkins are adorable, the bark most attractive and when you sit on the bench underneath it, it’s like entering a mysterious world. The filigree branches move in the slightest breeze and create a delicious play of light which I could watch for hours. The birds love the willow too, especially the willow warbler. The last picture was exposed for a minute to catch the movement. I was lucky because my model was asleep by then! Thank you, Cathy, for hosting the vase on a Monday and for boosting our creativity.
