Just got back from yet another trip for my book and couldn’t resist picking some flowers in my Swiss mountain garden on the way home. As the garden is situated at 1400m, plants like paeonias, alliums etc. are flowering a lot later. Voilà Paeonia Nick Shaylor, P. Inspecteur Lavergne and P. Sarah Bernardt, the latter just about to open, with Allium Purple Sensation, Astrantia Roma and a double, burgundy red Aquilegia. In case you think I was drunk when taking the images you’re mistaken: I treated myself to a new lens (Lensbaby) and in the glass is just home-made lemonade 😉 . Thanks to Cathy for hosting the vase – go and see what she and other bloggers have put in their vases!
Just lovely…our herbaceous peonies are just finishing up. They’ve lasted much longer than usual in the cool dry(ish) weather…Here’s to the end of spring, and beginning of summer!
It has been so hot and dry that my roses are over and need a good pruning – in my mountain garden flowers last a lot longer, but never mind, I much prefer a proper summer 🙂
This was my first year cutting peonies for a vase in all the years I was growing them. I combined them wth iris. I like your choice with Allium, Astrantia and Aquilegia. You have such a good eye for color and form. The backdrop of your borrowed view really is a nice view to wake up to in the morning.
Same for me but they’ve come on so well that I could finally cut some without feeling guilty. It was delightful to see the flowers opening up in the car when I drove back to France.
It is funny how we appreciate things when they aren’t in their ‚usual‘ season for us! Lovely to see the view from your house, stunning.
As long as we haven’t sold the house there I just enjoy picking flowers (fruits of my labour, so to speak) 🙂
Lovely flowers; such gorgeous colours. What a view. I love Switzerland. How wonderful to have a house there.
It’s for sale, Chloris, if you’re interested 😉
Liebe Grüsse in deinen Zaubergarten 🙂
The peonies make for a lovely arrangement. But maybe you should spike the lemonade with something to heighten your creativity!
I shall give it a thought, Jason 😉
Beautifully rich colours, Annette, that complement each other so well – and I find these pure white peonies absolutely stunning. I suppose it’s just the very quantity of petals. Thanks so much for sharing.
That’s Nick Shaylor…paeonias just have this baroque lushness about them, hard to resist.
Lovely, Annette, what a romantic arrangement. I like the way you’ve photographed the flowers to include the far landscape.
Thank you, Susie, and have a great week 🙂
It’s a beautiful combination of some of my favorite flowers – peonies, Allium and Astrantia – none of which will grow for me here in Southern California.
Thanks, Kris, for visiting! Looking at your fabulous garden, you shouldn’t be too sorry for not being able to grow them 😉
Beautiful! Especially with the mountain view in the background! 🙂
Thank, Cathy, I’m very lucky to have that view 🙂
Peonies and a mountain view – sheer bliss! You are lucky to be able to enjoy peonies and alliums together but I expect that when we were all raving about our early spring flowers you were under snow.
The garden in Switzerland is indeed often still under snow in spring, so that’s why I chose moving to a warmer climate where I now enjoy my garden all year.
Just gorgeous Annette … I can just about smell them. 🙂
Clever girl, Julie 🙂
A very attractive selection! Somehow peonies always give an oppulent look to an arrangement.
So true, almost indecently lush and oppulent 🙂
What beautiful colours and arrangement! And a beautiful setting – though you won’t have had a hand in arranging that! 😉
No, you’re right! Just in choosing the spot, I suppose. Thanks for calling in (sorry, I don’t even know your name) 🙂
No problem! I’m Ali – pleased to meet you! 🙂
I understand your reference to the possibility that we might think that you were under the influence Annette when you took those photos 🙂 I hope that you are getting lots of opportunity to play with your new lens. What beautiful shades of summer. All my favourite colours.
It’s needs a bit of work but it’s fun, Anna. Thanks for popping in 🙂
Stunning flowers. Hope the book is coming along well. Have a great weekend.
