Inspiriert von Cathys Beitrag machte ich mich heute morgen auf, um zu sehen, was es in unserem Garten an Blüten zu entdecken gibt. Die Schönheit liegt nun im Detail, manchmal ist es so klein, dass man sehr genau hinschauen muss. Sehr kalt war es bislang nicht, aber an schattigen Stellen gab es diesen Monat einige Tage lang leichten Dauerfrost mit Temperaturen um die 0/-1°C. Viele Pflanzen flüstern aber bereits das Wörtchen „Frühling“, obwohl der richtige Winter erst noch kommt. Diese Zeichen rühren mich jedoch und füllen mein Herz mit Freude und Hoffnung auf wärmere Füsse. Natürlich wollte ich Cathy ausstechen, aber es ist mir nicht gelungen. 🙂
Inspired by Cathy’s post I ventured out this morning to search for flowers in my garden. Beauty lies in the detail at this time of year, and sometimes it is so small that you really have to look very closely. It hasn’t been very cold up to now but in some shady spots there was permanent frost of around 0/-1°C for a couple of days this month. A lot of plants whisper of spring though, but don’t let it fool you as we all know that winter is yet to come. Still these signs touch my heart and fill it with joy and hope for warmer feet. Of course I meant to outdo Cathy but I didn’t succeed. 🙂

Wunderschön! Hoffentlich macht der noch kommende Winter sie nicht kaputt. Es ist ja nun wirklich nicht gerade kalt. Bei uns blüht leider noch nichts, aber ich hoffe das es das bald wird. 🙂 Einen guten Rutsch!

Two of the joys of winter are the absolutely gorgeous scents of the Sarcoccoca and Mahonia japonica.
It is amazing to see a bud on your Forsythia already.

Nein, nur Rosen, die hier und da noch Knospen gebildet haben – aber sonst so gut wie nichts zu sehen! Im November/Dezember kommt so gut wie keine Sonne in den Garten. Jetzt geht es so langsam wieder los..
Bei uns ist es heute auch frühlingshaft. Die Vögel zwitschern wie im März. Ich habe entdeckt, dass der Rosmarin und der Lorbeer, die zur Zeit im Gewächshaus stehen, voller Knospen sind.

You have some special blooms Annette. We had nearly two inches of rain yesterday, but today the sun is out and I can get outside. I haven’t had much blooming except pansies, but will have to look more carefully.
Hi Susie, it’s well worth to look properly – we’ve had lots of rain too and it takes ages for our loamy soil to dry up. It seems you have quite a mild climate too. Best wishes

But you have certainly outdone me with your photography, Annette, if not the number of different blooms – and I think you would ‚win‘ on overall quantity too! Thanks so much for the mention – I have had several visits from readers of your blog. I must go and inspect my H foetidus tomorrow – I moved some seedlings earlier this year and they have come on a bundle since then and although I don’t think they are whispering I will just check anyway 😉
It’s nice to rise to a challenge from time to time and after tossing and turning in bed, wondering how many flowers are out there, I decided to go for it. Nice record too 😉

After our major ice storm, not anything is blooming in the yard now. I do have a pot of pansies and another of stock that’s blooming in the greenhouse. I just have to have a touch of color somewhere. Thanks for sharing your blooming things. Happy New Year, Annette. Blessings, Natalie 🙂

You have some beautiful winter flowers Annette and your post has reminded me just how much I miss my viburnum tinus at this time of year. The leaves were decimated by viburnum beetle over a long period of time and it just became too unsightly. May be time to introduce a baby to the garden 🙂
Hi Anna, luckily Viburnum beetle hasn’t crossed my path so far – hope it stays that way as I’m haunted by other unwanted visitors. I have a weak spot for viburnum especially the scented ones and V. x bodnantense Dawn is already full of buds and it‘ won’t be long 🙂

I was working outdoors today and have to admit not noticing much in the way of flowers apart from the Mahonia, my new Witch Hazel and violas. I must pay more attention tomorrow.

oh my you have plenty of flowers in th egarden at this time of year. I’m afraid my own garden, which has recently been replanted is still in its infancy for winter action. Although my neighbour conveniently has a Forsythia which creeps through the trellis, so I cut a few boughs for Christmas flower decorations, and watched as the buds opened up in the warmth.
Actually I was amazed myself, so it pays to have a close look! There’s much room for improvement though and having started this garden not long ago I’m sure there’ll be plenty more in the years to come.
Winterheide, Zaubernuss und so etwas Mandelröschenartiges blühen gerade, der Rosmarin hat dicke Knospen und der Schnittlauch denkt schon sichtbar übers neue Austreiben nach 😉

Ich hoffe auf schönes Wetter am Wochenende. Dann werde ich mal eine Gartenrunde drehen. Die letzten Tage habe ich mich drinnen „eingeschlossen“ und mit dem neuen Foto-Equipment herumgespielt, das mir der Weihnachtsmann gebracht hat. Aber das gibt’s auch bald schöne Bilder in meinem Blog. Muss mich nur noch die Massen an Fotos durchwuseln und – noch schwerer – mich entscheiden 😉
